Salvage yard shopping

I ventured into a salvage yard for the first time and was instantly in love! One of my favourite tv shows is American pickers so I think that's where my love started :)

I went in looking for a small round side table that I can paint a nice bold colour like teal and place in my living room to brighten it up and also try and break up all the squares in the room.

I didn't find a table. What I did find was a real leather chair! It has two tears in the seat that were taped up but since it is red in colour and my living room is yellow, white, grey and teal, it will need a cover made anyway. I scored it for $5!! It still had the original sale tag on it from when it was new.... $149.95!!

The chair is super comfy and we are using it at the computer as we did have a dining chair there which was extremely uncomfortable.

I also picked up some old tins- a strepsils one and an old Elastoplast one- now I need to find an old shelf unit I can fix up to put them on :)

Charlotte turned 7-so it called for a Carnival!

 Before the carnival began!
A few bits of food and drink

 'Photo Booth'
'Duck Fishing' & 'Can Knock'

The sweets table!
Complete with toffee apples, gum balls and popcorn sticks!

The big 7 yr old-was a bit over the party by this point!
My nephew in the photo booth
 Hubby having fun!
umm YEP-the cake caught on fire!
8 layers of rainbow goodness!

The lolly bags made from my scrap stash. The each contained: popstick bracelet, pompom pen, stickers, candy bracelet, mini mentos, pencil topper eraser and 2x sherbet sticks

A total of 28 kids and 17 adults, can knock, photo booth, duck fishing, accuracy throw, a roller coaster, swing set, slide, monkey bars and colouring in, silly string, balloons, glitter party poppers and lots and lots of food!  Lots and lots and LOTS of noise and even more mess than that!  It was a great day which really did take ALOT of time for the prep and planning.  I made everything from scratch, myself.

We had moustaches and lips on lolly pops and in the photo booth, chocolate spoons, popcorn, bbq lunch and more.  Charlotte had a wonderful day and got thoroughly spoilt. I am still recovering and next year I think we might do a trip to the movies and a sleep over with a couple of friends perhaps.  I absolutely LOVE doing parties so knowing me I will change my mind before then!

A Fun School Holiday Snack

As a special treat I made Charlotte some fairy bread with a twist! Instead of butter I used nutella - and it went down a treat!!!

Easter Sunday

Ok, so these photos have added in the wrong order so I guess I need to explain our day in reverse!!

This is the INSANE amount of eggs Charlotte got.  That'2 from my brother and sister and 2 sets of grandparents!

What Easter Bunny left :)

Having some quiet time
Easter breakfast
Boiled eggs with 'shrink-its' on them-these are amazing!!  Although these eggs were a bit small and extremely hot when I was trying to put the shrink its on and they weren't on perfectly.  Basically these came in a pack of 12 for $2 and you slide them over the boiled egg and then dip the egg into boiling water for 2 seconds and the wrap shrinks down and clings to the eggs!

Charlotte decided she had to be the same as her 3 year old cousin and 'dot' her name out and trace over it lol

New Pets

For almost 3 years Charlotte has wanted a rabbit.  We used to live in the desert and it would have been cruel to keep a rabbit up there.  We then agreed she could get a rabbit when she went into Year 1 at school (2nd year) but a multitude of things happened and we never got around to it.

About a month ago I decided it was time.  I was taking the next step and allowing her this special pet she has been begging us for for so long.  We came up with an agreement-she would be responsible for feeding them and making sure they always had plenty of clean water and she also has to clean the cage out once a week (with my help until she is capable)

So I set out researching bunnies and cages.  Cages are expensive. Very. Expensive.  Rabbits are mostly cheap-unless you go for a mini lop like I wanted (over $200!).  Then a few days after deciding to get them I was driving down a street near my Mum's and there was a rabbit cage out on the street for giveaway! Score!!  I bundled it into the car and off we went.

A few days later we called a lady and asked to have a look at her baby bunnies.  We came home with 2.  How can you take ONE from it's brothers and sisters and into a strange place just before winter-ALL ALONE??  I couldn't-so we took 2-both girls-we hope!

Checking out Heidi our precious old girl!

We went with a breed called Netherland.  They are extremely friendly.  The get excited when we walk past their cage, come up for a pat or to be picked up.  They don't run away when we let them roam the yard and it's time to go back in their cage.  They eat from our hands.

Charlotte has been a fabulous 'Mummy' to them.  She gets up early to cuddle and feed them, puts them on the lawn to free range or in their playpen (we have holes that are unfixable under the fence), helps to clean their cage and even brushes them with their special brush.

But it isn't all good. Yesterday hubby and I came home to find they had escaped their cage-we think the dog managed to flick the lock as it is very loose and on the front-and they just had to lean on the door for it to open.  I found the more placid one, Nahla, on the back lawn eating and she happily came to me but Bella, the cheekier, naughtier one (she likes to hide under the bushes just out of reach or run behind the shed sometimes) is nowhere to be found.  :(  We went next door and they helped us check their yard but no signs of her.

Charlotte is staying at my Mum's for a few days (school holidays) so she doesn't know yet and I have put signs up but I don't like our chances of getting her back.  So when Charlotte comes home I have some bad news to tell her :(

My First Mood Board

This was done just for fun-and I know the owl cushion doesn't really go :)  I think these are my current favourite colours.  My family room is white/beige/grey and yellow. I am thinking of adding teal aswell.  I need some pops of colour, we have off white tiles, wooden/stained trim, cream walls and this awful light apricot/beige coloured kitchen.  It's terrible. So anything I can do to distract from the kitchen-I will do it!
